Check out this list of hazards National Geographic photographers have compiled of scary things they have encountered while working.

Of this list, I have personally had two cameras stolen (but not robbed, per se), beaten (by a cop during the 1993 Saskatoon Blue Jays World series riot), been tear-gassed (during the same riot), threatened with arrest several times, including a few weeks ago, and run one police checkpoint (or rather, dodged it).  Never a dull moment.
