A little late in the day posting this to the blog, but here goes: Precision Drilling Rig 120 is the Day 6 rig of the 12 Rigs of Christmas. It was photographed on an extremely cold February day north of Macoun. I was happy to have fingers when I was done.
This photo shoot was very unique. The mineral rights owners, originally from around here, now live in BC. But they were getting a few holes drilled on their land, and they really wanted one, just one, very large canvas for their wall to remind them where the royalty cheques were coming from. The first hole was drilled by CanElson 21 that October, but I was not able to make it work out. The second hole was drilled towards the end of the winter drilling season, and that did indeed come to pass.
As for the AT-ATs attacking the rig, well, I’ve posted it a few times, because some days it feels damned appropriate.
Photos of this rig can be found here.
My other drilling rigs can be found here.
The photo lab suggested that all orders to Canada should be in by Dec. 8, or yesterday. So if you would like a print of one of these pictures, please contact me directly at brian.zinchuk@sasktel.net. I have the ability to do paper prints up to 16×20 ($75, need to be framed) or 16×32 here in Estevan, or canvas prints from 18×24 ($240), 24×36 ($500) to 36×96 ($1900). Canvas prints cost about $80 per square foot. Canvas prints especially take a fair bit of work, so you need to order early.
I also may be able to order other sizes of prints from my Canadian lab, but those would need to be ordered quickly.
Merry Christmas!

12 Rigs of Christmas: Day 5: Vortex Rig 1
8 12 2014The photo printing lab strongly recommends that orders be in by Dec. 8 in order to be sure they make it for Christmas, so I am accelerating my “12 Rigs of Christmas.”
What do you buy a guy who as all the toys and works in the patch?
How about a gorgeous wall print of their favorite rig? Over the past several years, I have photographed most of the locally owned rigs in southeast Saskatchewan, including rigs from Betts Drilling, Red Dog Drilling, Panther Drilling, Stampede Drilling and Vortex Drilling. There’s even an occasional Savannah, CanElson and Precision, too!
In that vein, I am presenting the 12 rigs of Christmas. Next up: Vortex Rig 1, which was photographed southwest of Lake Alma. on its first hole. It was nice and shiny as a result. This rig started my commercial photography business, and opened my eyes to what is possible. It was a gorgeous June day, and the lighting was perfect. To order find a picture just right for you, click here.
But don’t wait for your particular rig to come up. They can all be found here.
You can order any size, from tiny up to 40×60 inches, so there’s something for every budget.
Until Dec. 11, there is a 15% coupon on all Panther Drilling prints. This includes Rig 1, 2, 3 and 4. Enter coupon code: Vortex
(HOWEVER, please noted orders should be in by Dec. 8 to be sure they will make it here by Christmas. There may be a rush delivery option, but I’m not sure. If you choose to order something after Dec. 8, please contact me directly at brian.zinchuk@sasktel.net before placing an order, as I might have to print it here in Estevan.)
You can order prints off my website, perfect for delivery for Christmas. Just click on the green “Buy Photos” They can be printed as gallery wrap canvases, metal prints, or even on coffee cups. The turnaround for almost all these orders in 1-3 business days. Allow for shipping from California, where the lab is located.
Merry Christmas!

Work begins on fine art canvas gallery wrap prints
18 10 2012
I will be starting work on my canvas fine art prints over the next few days. This will start with construction of the frames out of furniture grade fir. The printing is on exhibition grade canvas, the best Epson makes, and it will be printed with the best printer Epson makes. It uses 11 different inks to give the most accurate possible colour representation. The inks are rated to up to 200 years (I am assuming, as long as you don’t leave it in direct glaring sun. How they know it will last that long, I’m not sure, but it’s the best grade of inks I have seen.)
Then the canvases are spray laminated with two coats of archival varnish laminate before being stretched onto the frames. Finally, the hanging hardware is mounted.
This photo is the one shown at the Estevan Chamber of Commerce Showcase in September. It will be printed as a 24×60 inch print, and will be available for $1,000 plus tax at the Estevan Pharmasave or by direct order. There will be several other selections offered as well.
If you click on the photo you will be taken to a gallery offering other photos that will be available for purchase. Please be sure to check them out!

Free wedding shoot takes place this weekend
6 10 2011Last spring, I announced that I would be giving away a free wedding photography package. That prize was won by Terra-Lee Hall and Rob Jack of Weyburn. They were the first to hit 100 frients who liked my facebook page, www.facebook.com/BrianZinchukPublishing. The big day for Terra-Lee and Rob is this weekend. I will be shooting the whole day, and concluding the evening with a photobooth for the guests.
The couple will get some wall enlargements, all the photos on disk, and a very nice album, produced in Venice, Italy.
I’ve scouted out a bit by the river, and we should have a wonderful day. I’m looking forward to it. Congratulations once again to the winners.

Come see me at the Estevan Showcase
23 09 2011Well, it’s here folks. The Estevan Showcase tradeshow will take place at the brand spanking new Spectra Place Events Centre.
The Showcase hours are as follows:
- Friday, Sept 23 – 4 pm – 9 pm
- Saturday, Sept 24 – 10 am – 6 pm
- Sunday, Sept 25 – 10 am – 4 pm
My booth, Brian Zinchuk Publishing, is really easy to find. From the entrance, go along the left side. I’m the fourth one in on the inside.
What’s really special is I will be trying out my new photobooth arrangement. It’s really cool – set up just like those old fashioned photobooths you would see in a train station or airport. Sit down on the bench, I take four pictures, print them out, and there you go!
And since this is my first time out with this, for a limitted time, I will be doing this for just $5 bucks! You gotta try it!
In the future, this service will be available for things like Christmas parties, wedding receptions, maybe even grads, for a flat rate for a few hours. It’s definitely one way to liven up the party!
As well, I just received my newest albums from Italy. They are on display at my booth. These will knock your socks off. I think they weigh around, oh, six or seven pounds, EACH. Those who have had a sneak peak at them on Thursday had never seen anything like that before. I now have sample albums for a wedding, a drilling rig, and a Harley. Detailed shots will be in an upcoming blog post here.
I’ve also got a couple print samples, one of a gatorboard metallic print, and another of a canvas wrap, that are quite impressive. If anyone would like a copy one of these, I will be taking orders on site for delivery in a couple weeks. The drilling rig canvas wrap would make a great present for any rig hand. Remember, Christmas is coming!
If anyone would like to talke to me about weddings, grads, family or commercial shoots, I will be taking bookings.
Finally, I am revamping my website. www.Zinchuk.ca will now re-direct here, to my blog. It’s much cleaner, and I intend on updating it several times a week.
From this page you will be able to go to my galleries page for viewing or print orders. All print orders will be through my online proofing provider. It’s really easy – just find a picture you like, click print, pick what you are looking for (there’s oh, about 400 options), pay with a credit card via secure server, and it is shipped directly to you.
I look forward to seeing you this weekend!

Website address changes and fair warning on sports photos
16 08 2011
I’m in the process of consolidating my web presence so that it’s much easier to navigate. It will all eventually come under the http://www.zinchuk.ca banner.
Currently, the blog is hosted at brianzinchukpublishing.wordpress.com. That will become blog.zinchuk.ca.
The newer photo galleries for viewing and ordering were at zinchuk.smugmug.com. Older galleries were at www.zinchuk.ca. These will come together at galleries.zinchuk.ca.
The new site offers the ability to Facebook share photos and to order prints online in an almost infinite variety of forms. All future photo sales will now be hosted through galleries.zinchuk.ca, including wedding, portrait, commercial and sports. You can order prints of almost any size or variety, including coffee cups and gallery wraps!
If you have any of these bookmarked, you will want to change those bookmarks now.
It also means that the order form currently on www.zinchuk.ca will eventually be phased out by Halloween, and with it, the ability to order photos from past sporting events. I have about 4 terabytes of hard drives chock full of football, hockey, baseball, softball, synchronized swimming, water polo, ringette, tae kwon do, stock car racing and more. I am running out of space!
That means if you have been putting off ordering some photos such as football (you know who you are), you need to do it now, because they will soon be going bye-bye and the raw files may be meeting the great delete button in the sky. Orders will be done within 8 weeks, since I need to squeeze it in between other projects. As an added incentive, I will throw in a duplicate print of any order between now and Halloween, free of charge.
Once this is all sorted out, it will be a lot easier to access and offer a lot more features for my clients.
While I make this move, I will be posting links to the galleries from previous shoots. Please check them out!

And The Winner Is…
12 03 2011
The winner of the Free Wedding Promo 2011 will receive a full day photo shoot, album, wall prints, and disks
The winner of the Brian Zinchuk Publishing Free Wedding Promo 2011 is Terra-Lee Hall, and her fiancé Rob Jack, of Weyburn! Terra-Lee cracked the magic 100 ‘like’ number at approximately 10 a.m. Friday morning. Terra-Lee and Rob will receive a free $2,500 wedding silver photography package. It includes a full day of photography, professional album, wall prints, and the files on DVD and USB.
Coming in a very close second (it was neck and neck there) is Megan Beck, and her fiancé Jeff Dupuis, of Estevan. She hit 100 ‘likes’ just a scant seven hours later. For her efforts, Megan is entitled to two free parent albums, worth $500, if she and Jeff decide to book their wedding with me! But wait! For her heroic efforts, I will also throw in an upgrade to a 20×24 canvas wall print, worth $275. The total second prize is worth $775!
I would like to thank everyone who took part.
That said, I still have many dates open for weddings and grad shoots for both 2011 and 2012. Please contact me if you’re interested.
I also do sports photography, a bit of family photography, and will eventually do some baby photography down the road. And for all you guys there who are thinking “Oh, so girlie,” I will also be doing Harley Davidson photography this summer. Polish ‘er up and let’s take ‘er out! Winter will be over soon!
Thanks again! Congratulations to the winners!
