Synchro photos being uploaded
28 03 2011Wow, it takes a long time to upload 9400 photos! Right now, pretty much all for Friday from 2 p.m on, and the first half of Saturday, are uploaded. I anticipate the remainder should be up by somewhere around morning to noon Tuesday, give or take. Photos can be found at www.zinchuk.ca.
Please take note, until April 15, disks of whole routines are half price! Also, I will be selling individual files for $15 for the first one, $10 for subsequent ones on the same order. Again, that’s only until April 15.
I hope everyone got home okay. I didn’t get out of Regina until after 5 p.m. It took one hour and 45 minutes to get from Regina to Weyburn. That’s usually an hour trip. I nearly lost control on the ice twice, once ending up in the oncoming traffic lane. A 5-ton commercial truck was upside down in the ditch, as was a Suburban. I got as far as a friends place in Weyburn and said, that’s all I’m doing today. Another friend spent 2.5 hours going from Moose Jaw to Regina, a 45 minute trip usually. So I hope you are all home safe, alive and well.

2011 Western Canadian Synchro Championships
27 03 2011I am currently in Regina at 2011 Western Canadian Synchro Championships. On Friday, I shot, oh, about 3,000 photos. On Saturday, another 6,000 or so. They are amazing!
Saturday night the computer churned through uploading about 2/3 of the photos so far. They are available at www.zinchuk.ca. There are instructions on the home page for ordering disks. Be sure to like www.facebook.com/BrianZinchukPublishing for updates on print specials one I get a chance to post selected photos to my more advanced ordering site at zinchuk.smugmug.com.
Not only was it hot and humid on the diving deck (as well as the perfect angle), one really works up a sweat shooting this high-paced event. I even caught myself moving to the music on occasion. I am posting my very first video blog on my Facebook page right now, but it might take a while to upload. My assistant and loving mother videoed the action, including some of the fasted lens swaps I have ever done. Blink, and you might miss it. As soon as the link is up, I will post it here.

Nikon Professional Services Newest Member
18 03 2011I just got this email today:
“Welcome to Nikon Professional Services. You are among an elite international group of special Nikon photographers.”
This is a big deal for me. To qualify as a Nikon Pro, you must be a full time working professional, submitting samples of recent, paid work. You must own, at minimum, two professional bodies and two professional lenses. Very few photographers actually become Nikon or Canon Pros.
Membership provides for expedited repairs of hardware, and access to loaner professional lenses if requested. This is because Nikon Pros need their gear to make a living, and can’t wait the weeks it might otherwise take.
I had a chance to meet with the Nikon Canada Pro rep while in Las Vegas in February. I’ve been aspiring to membership in NPS for years. I am absolutely thrilled.

Meet the Winners!
16 03 2011
Terra and Rob will have their wedding photography free this fall, after winning Brian Zinchuk Publishing's Free Wedding Promo 2011!
Terra and Rob of Weyburn were the first to hit 100 Facebook ‘likes’ on my Free Wedding Promo 2011 last week. I met with them on Monday evening to make arrangements for their October wedding. I have to say, this couldn’t be going to a nicer couple. I am so thrilled to be able to do this for them on their big day. I’m bubbling over with ideas. We’re going to have a lot of fun during the shoot, and might even roast some marshmallows! (Mmmmm…. marshmellows…) We’ll just have to make sure none get on the dress.
They will be getting the Silver package, a full day’s worth of photography, a professionally edited and produced album, wall prints for themselves and their parents, and the files on disk. I will even include a USB drive to view photos on the big screen TV.
They were brave enough to stand outside the Weyburn Tim Horton’s in a stiff breeze for this picture. I think Rob might have needed to thaw out afterwards.
Calls are coming in, and I’ve already had two inquiries for one date. So if you’re in need of a photographer, don’t delay in contacting me, because your date might get snatched up quickly.
Again, congratulations to Terra and Rob.
Brian

And The Winner Is…
12 03 2011
The winner of the Free Wedding Promo 2011 will receive a full day photo shoot, album, wall prints, and disks
The winner of the Brian Zinchuk Publishing Free Wedding Promo 2011 is Terra-Lee Hall, and her fiancé Rob Jack, of Weyburn! Terra-Lee cracked the magic 100 ‘like’ number at approximately 10 a.m. Friday morning. Terra-Lee and Rob will receive a free $2,500 wedding silver photography package. It includes a full day of photography, professional album, wall prints, and the files on DVD and USB.
Coming in a very close second (it was neck and neck there) is Megan Beck, and her fiancé Jeff Dupuis, of Estevan. She hit 100 ‘likes’ just a scant seven hours later. For her efforts, Megan is entitled to two free parent albums, worth $500, if she and Jeff decide to book their wedding with me! But wait! For her heroic efforts, I will also throw in an upgrade to a 20×24 canvas wall print, worth $275. The total second prize is worth $775!
I would like to thank everyone who took part.
That said, I still have many dates open for weddings and grad shoots for both 2011 and 2012. Please contact me if you’re interested.
I also do sports photography, a bit of family photography, and will eventually do some baby photography down the road. And for all you guys there who are thinking “Oh, so girlie,” I will also be doing Harley Davidson photography this summer. Polish ‘er up and let’s take ‘er out! Winter will be over soon!
Thanks again! Congratulations to the winners!

What sort of print options are available?
11 03 2011A Word on Prints
I had a question today about prices and picture options, so I thought I might be able to answer that question here for anyone else that’s interested. I’ll interpret “picture options” as “prints.”
(Before I get into that, don’t forget to check out the Free Wedding Promo 2011)
First of all, the options now are essentially endless. I have recently signed up with an online ordering service called SmugMug Pro, which prints its photos with Bay Photo. Both are leading professional services in the U.S. But what does this mean to you, the person who wants prints?
It means that once the photo editing is done and the final versions are uploaded, you can get any sort of print option you can imagine, and several you probably haven’t imagined.
Conventional prints
For conventional prints, you can have them printed in the usual glossy and lustre (the stuff you’re used to seeing your school pictures printed on). Then there’s metallic prints. You can’t really get a good feel of what it looks like until you’ve seen it for yourself. Monitors or pictures in magazines can’t do it justice. The colour saturation is amazing. For photos with lots of strong colours, like green grass, for instance, it almost looks better than real life. The colours just leap off the wall.
Then there’s something called “Giclée”
Giclee prints are made with high-quality archival inks on fine art papers using a high-resolution large format inkjet printer. Premium inks produce images with smooth tones and rich colors, making these prints ideal for extraordinary presentations. They are available in Watercolor and Canvas paper surfaces.
See what I mean? I never even heard of this stuff until recently. These are top notch products, not stuff you’re likely to get at the corner drug store.
Although metallic prints cost more than your traditional glossy or lustre, I’ve priced them the same as those options. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. The Giclee prints cost a lot more to produce than other prints. However, I have tried to price them as close as possible to the other types, so that it is not cost prohibitive.
Canvas Wraps
This brings us to canvas wraps. Every see a painting on the wall, where the picture wraps around the edge? That’s what a canvas wrap is. It’s a high-quality inkject print on museum-quality canvas, typically laminated.
I’ve fallen in love with wraps for a few reasons. Number one, they look really classy. Secondly, they require no additonal framing. This makes a big difference on non-standard sizes, essentially anything larger than an 11×14. Custom framing can look very nice, but can be quite expensive. For a very large print, for instance, it will cost substantially more for the print and custom framing than a canvas wrap.
Metal Prints
If you like the contemporary look, you want to take a serious look at metal prints. They are printed directly onto a thin sheet of aluminum. They are mounted so they look like they float on the wall. Tres chic.
Again, because they have their own mounting hardware, you don’t need to spend anything on framing. Personally, I would much rather have a larger picture, be it on canvas or metal print, than a smaller one in a fancy frame. After all, what’s more important, the people in the picture, or the frame?
Metal prints can be made as large as 30 inchs by 40 inches – about as big as your door on your stainless steel fridge. That’s huge!
And this all means?
All that said, I can offer prints in all these options, in every size and shape imagineable, including panoramas and squares. There are literally over 300 permutations available. While my price offers a few options, in reality, there are hundreds of options now available.
If you would like to take a look, go to zinchuk.smugmug.com and click on the Cushon family link. On the top right, click on “buy this photo” (You’re not actually going to buy it, but it shows the prices and sizes) I will be using this service to sell prints after the editting is complete. It’s also a great way to show your pictures to family and friends. If they would like to get a copy of a picture, they will be welcome to order from it, too!
Long story short, I can now print pretty much anything you desire. I hope you like it.

A few minor changes
2 03 2011Just a quick note: After coming back from Wedding and Portrait Photographers International 2011 in Vegas, I have a number of new suppliers and products available. That means there will be some minor adjustments on pricing, particularly on the a la carte items. The packages will remain essentially the same in makeup, and their prices will remain unchanged.
Also, I will be able to offer a large variety of printing items, basically everything you can possibly imagine, from conventional glossy prints to metallic, from canvas wraps to metal prints actually printed on aluminum. Sizes range from 5×5 to 30×40 inches!
I can even get coffee cups and t-shirts made!
To check out pricing on these items, go to zinchuk.smugmug.com and click on the Cushon gallery. The pricing and product selection is available under the “Buy – this photo” button. Future customers will be able to purchase additional prints and merchandise in this manner.
Much more exciting news to come in the coming weeks!
